Sorry for the lack of new art lately! A lot of stuff moving around … some canceled stuff and some show dates moved. I also haven’t posted new Etsy art because there is a possibility that print series may be going somewhere else. More about that later. Thanks for the emails and messages asking about updates … it makes an artist’s day to have people actually interested in what we’re working on! :D

May & June have been pretty quiet, but July and August are already shaping up to be crammed with new stuff. And the rest of the year … OMG … if you are a movie fan, you are going to be really excited about some of the shows that are coming up this year at various galleries. WOW.

But in the meantime …

"Those Meddling Kids" by Ridge (glow mockup)

My glow-in-the-dark screen print for the Righteous Rides show at Hero Complex Gallery. This is print #2 in my “Spoilers” series, and is inspired by the original Scooby Doo series “Scooby Doo, Where Are You?”. This time, I made most of the page black because I wanted the glossy glow-in-the-dark ink (which is more visible on dark colors) to show some ghostly activity even when you looked at it in daylight. Plus … a secret peek at Shaggy & Scooby! It’s sort of like two prints in one … even when the lights are on! The top photo is the actual print in daylight. The bottom is a mockup to show you what the glow layer looks like. I think the glow is a little darker green than that, though.

Finding myself really choked up about the loss of Roger Ebert. I still remember when his former AT THE MOVIES partner Gene Siskel died … he was the one whose opinion I sided the most with, and I thought well, ‘eh … no need to pay atttention to the other guy anymore. But Roger Ebert in his “second act” — as Sarah Lewitinn so nicely put it — really came into his own. I came to love his writing even when I didn’t agree with what he wrote.

Here’s my all-time fave review of his (if you can get on the site now … his archives are overloaded with traffic) about Steve Martin’s SHOPGIRL. Ebert’s opening moved me so much, it has stuck in my mind all these years later.

What do you get when you cross this classic SNL sketch with this totally rad film???

My “Toonces” piece for the secret/surprise Saturday Night Live show at Gallery 1988. Not even sure how to describe what illustration style I used here … kind of a mashup between modern CGI and really lame ’80s movie computer animation (the glowing cliff scene at the bottom, etc.) which sorta fits for a DRIVE spoof. (If you haven’t seen the film, you should!)

Incidentally, I am shocked SHOCKED out of my mind that no one did either of the first two ideas I was going to spoof for this show … I thought for sure someone would do the same thing, so I picked Toonces instead. But since we weren’t allowed to share our artwork before the opening, it was a total surprise what anyone else did! I think I’ll finish those ideas up to post here later just for fun.

Thanks again to Gallery 1988 for inviting me to be in this fun show and congrats on the new location! The SNL artwork will be up at their new space — 7308 Melrose Avenue, LA — until April 20th.

I never know what to do with the asks that come in … I always reply privately, but when someone sends it, are they assuming I’ll answer on my blog? I ask this, because sometimes I get several people asking the same question, and it seems like it might be helpful just to post those answers publicly. Although sometimes it’s just something like “why are you so rad??” and I feel weird answering those, because I’m sure it’s just my 97 year-old grandma in another one of her drunken tumblr binges*.

What say you, tumblrers … do you like your asks answered as a new blog post?? Or do you want your weird Q’s answered in private to hide your shame?
