AFTER THE 1ST OF THE YEAR, I’M GOING TO START TAKING ORDERS FOR CUSTOM PRINTS

I’ve not really had time up until now to do many individual projects, as gallery show prints take up all of my extra time, but I am looking to raise funds in order to move in a few months, so I’m gearing up for double (triple?) drawing duty. :) My desire for a change in scenery can be of benefit to your walls!

THE GOONIES, CASABLANCA, The Beatles, THE BRADY BUNCH … whatever you have in mind*! Benedict Cumberbatch dressed like Ronald McDonald and riding a plaid unicorn??? You got it!

Although I do many parts of my drawings old school with pencil or ink, etc., I almost always finish the composite in digital, so these would be for a digital or giclee print (your choice), but as you’re paying for it, you will receive the only copy. Each commissioned print will be signed and numbered 1/1.

I’ll post pricing/timing details after the holidays, but in the meantime, if you’d like to talk to me about a potential project, feel free to drop me a line. Just use the subject line “Custom print”. Please also pass this along (or reblog) if you know of anyone who has been looking for a certain pop culture print (cartoon portrait, alternative movie poster, whatevs) that they can’t find out there. And FYI, I’ve been trained to draw in many illustration styles, so feel free to challenge me on a specific historical and/or spoof style!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

*OK, I may draw the line at something I just really don’t want to watch … like say, THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE. Though I do like lots of stuff — even “weird” stuff — so try me!

Yeah! Last of the Pete Townshend self-promo mailers sent out today. Thank you to everyone who got theirs already and had such nice things to say. :) I’m posting a version here without my private contact info.
So now that I cartooned McCartney and Townshend, who’s next?? Keith Richards? Robert Plant? Ray Davies? Who????
In the meantime, considering the great response I already got via the internet/email, this month’s mailer will be Jimmy Fallon & The Roots. Then I guess a postcard break for a while. Art directors only expect them every 3-4 months anyway. They’re just so much fun to do!

I think Jimmy Fallon may very well be the happiest human being alive*. And probably for good reason.
I had the crappiest of crap weeks last week so I consoled myself by doodling something silly for no reason other than to just have fun doing it. (Part of that “Weird & Unnecessary” creative exercise that someone very successful taught me.) Was catching up on some Late Night via Hulu and remembered an idea I thought up back when the show started a couple of years ago. Hence why Owen is still in the Roots here, even though he’s now gone. I probably should have replaced him, but it works well design-wise, plus I guess I’m in denial because I had a bit of a secret crush on him. Actually, I’ve had a crush on Quest for years, so I’ll be fine. :)
I’m digging this thing now of making portraits out of basic shapes … started with Pete Townshend, and now I have a ton of them in the works. I’m also nuts about these two colors together … would make a great screenprint.
I messed around with an alternate version that’s just a Roots fake gig poster … I’ll post that when I have time to finish it. That made me a bit sad again, though, as it got me to thinking … how is it that half the people I know are musicians, but I’ve never once gotten to do a funky gig poster?? COME ON GUYS … I can do it!
Ho hum. Anyway, enjoy!
*I discovered while googling reference photos that you don’t need to specify “Jimmy Fallon smiling” … they’re ALL like that. :D
